A3 auto gearbox problem.

I have an a3 1.8 auto, petrol and when I reach 60 mph the revs are at 3000 and it feels like it should move up a gear. What should the rev count be normally at this spped. I am reluctant to go faster as the noise is making me nervous.

Is it the turbo? 3000 rpm is a sweet spot in these engines giving best economy and power and it's good for cleaning out the old crud.

I suppose it is a 4 speed auto. My manual A3 1.8T sat at 2960 rpm at 70mph in 5th gear.
