406 diesel problems

wen i turn off the car i can take the key out and it will still be runing.has anyone ever had this problem.

:shock: How do you stop the engine? Stall it!?

I've heard of a mates car doing it, but it was a very old unreliable car!

I guess that the car does stop on its own within minute. I have heard of this with Diesels - the glow plugs are staying hot and this is enough to keep the engine turning over. (In a petrol no power - no spark so there is no run on.)

I had this on my previous 406, ran on for a few seconds before cutting off, what i was told is it was most likely the stop solenoid, on a 406 the are horizontal and stick when a bit worn, should only be a couple of quid for a new one, screws off, then screw new one on afaik

Which diesel have you got?

The old XUDT or the new HDi enigne?
