just out of interest did you check the polarity of the wires ?
LEDs only work one way round, hopefully if they are decent leds then they will have polarity protection.

as for the voltage being different yes big difference. LEDs normally run on between 2-4v for use in car motorbike applications theres norally an inbuilt resister to allow them to run on 10-14v
 
no i didnt,im a bit lost on car electrics to be honest
ive got a multimeter,help please cause ive got no indicators at all now
i need to let other car drivers know when im about to overtake em:lol:
 
check the voltage with the multimeter your looking for a positive 12v ( or thereabouts batteries can be anything from 10.5 - 14v) the red lead on your multimeter points to the +ve lead.if you get a negative swap the leads over ;)

try removing the leds and swapping the 2 wires over and test them again. with any luck you will have decent LEDs with the reverse polarity protection and they will work ok
