Understand that these are currently under review and maybe cut to every two years insetad of every year. This, imo, seems ridiculous as most people are too lazy to do any work on their cars except when it comes to MOT time so this will surely result in many more 'unroadworthy' vehicles driving around - and if classed as this surely the insurance wont pay out either so if in a accident it could be years of going to court to try and force the money out of those in the wrong.

not sure who came up with this brainwave of an idea but its seems to be incredibly stupid.

it wont happen it was labours idea but have heard my my mot mags i get when it comes to the top of the pile the y will most likey throw it in the bin stright away as every one has told them not to do it
will loose money in the motor trade will have more deaths and crashes ect

i havent heard anything of this but it is a dangerous idea imo.
with so many older cars on the roads then to transfer it every 2 years is ridiculous.
the motor industry is already struggling to stay afloat so this, i think, will be the final nail in the coffin.

just basic stuff really tyres brakes ect
wont be long before the fords start with the rust problem most even 3 years old have surface rust
ka's are the worst i fail nearly every one that comes in

is that because you dont like them ? lol :)
fords where renowned for rust a few years ago, thought they sorted it out a bit ? coundnt have could they then ?

2 Year MOTS will be a bad idea! There are enough cars that scrape through as it is. How many poeple will fix an advisory before the next MOT is new!

I can't see this happening!

Trust me Fords really don't rust that bad anymore. They must have been very neglected.

they do
fords have not really changed
you used to get some that never went rusty and some that did
today its the ka's that go rusty and focus's ect are ok for now

had a xreg one in today spotless body work only done 32k
in for a service and mot
in the end i did the service and not the mot as the sills were rotten
and i am in france for a week from wednesday so insted of failing it then her waiting for a week till i do it and loosing most of the retest i will weld it up next week and mot it then

but the bloke i with with tested a 53 plate ka the other day rotten on the sills and floor

I suggest he scraps it. There are much better places for Ford KAs than on the road. The bodywork has done him a favour. It's no loss.

I do agree with MOT's every year. Like what has been said, they will keep you up to date with serviceable cars.

I think there should be a second adjudicator with an MOT though. My mate got put out of business due to some money grabbing junkie.

He passed his car on an advisory, saying that the wells on his car are starting to show rust. He did the hammer test and it passed.

The junkie then decided to put a sledge hammer through the foot well and claim that his girls foot went straight through it.

My mate had a 3 year MOT ban and lost his garage because MOT'ing was about 60% of his business.

The junkie got £2000 compo witch will no doubt be up his arm right now.

My mate had been doing MOT's for about 8 years, and had never had a compaint. He had failed many of his mates cars that were un road worthy as he is an honest guy. Never tried to screw the system, but got screwed.

he should not of been done for that if he advised it as that covers your really

i have just been done my self my fault
on a ka lol
missed 3 bits of rust
one bit i got thrown out as you could not see it as it was behind a cover at the time i tested it
but the other 2 bits i missed no meens about it

i got 60 points and had to do a 2 day retraining course

but the women how owned the ka thought she would be able to send the car back were she bought it from and get all the work done for free ect

now she has a car that has no mot loads of rust to fix a appeal to pay for 54quid plus another mot gets nothing from us we offered to weld it up when it all come about and she said no so that was that

but if we got shut down that would be us finished as mots are about 80% of are trade

people need to understand the mot and what it meens so many people i will say women as in all they know less about the cars and what a mot meens ect but a lot of bloke dont
and that is were most of the appeals come from my mate said

garage nearby me (wont name them as they are very useful) failed our runaround escort last week - as so they should - but missed two knackered rear shock absorders and a hole in the sill. This wasnt a mistake, the guys just a bit crap because the oil seems to have completely drained from the shocks, they have been needing replaced for about 3 months.

TN69: the Focus is good, my brother has one on a 'V' plate, but the rear arches are getting pretty ropey now - he does only wash it once or twice a year though.
