What horror stories do you have from your MOT's?

The worst one I had was a car that needed £400 of welding, both sills, all the doors and 2 wheel arches and a suspension mount needed a lot of work. The car doors looked a bit tatty but the rest of the car seemed ok.

I see a few get caught on emissions and need new cats, then engine work as it wasn't the cat after all.

as you know am a tester so never had one

but fo rme nothing like having a good long sheet am still trying for my 3 page failer have had 2 full pages but cars are not as rusty as they once was

first car i ever tested once i got my ticket was a roll's royce silver shadow 2 what a good first car lol that was a fail then it all went down hill from there as you all know i cant spell very well and trying to write the failer sheet out was lucky that the pc come in a week after

Whats the worst one you've seen then? There must be some cars that look like they will fail from a distance. I guess there are some really optimistic owners out there.

Has anyone tried to bribe you?

worst one mmmmmmm pass must be a escort or ka they are alwasy failing had a few that i have stoped half way and they went to scrap stright after

but have a old boy come in with this tatty old montego should of been scraped years ago is all hand painted and held together by tape lol yet it passes every year as there is nothing i can fail it on

and do get loads of bribes think the worst ones are are non uk frenids lol they say i will give you ten pounds more to pass it mmmmm no would not do it for 1000 pounds more they dont understand if i get court i will get done lose my ticket and job and maybe jail if it was a bad one
and they get done as well for fruad all for passing a car that should be failed

but sometimes the odd case of beer in the boot might miss a few tiny bits if they are not bad lol

My dad once welded some new sill on my sisters car years ago. And we took it to a garage to get the mot done and they failed it on the welds. It was only tacked just to pass the mot. So we drove it back home and took it to the garage just around the corner and he passed it straight away.

i bough a vw camper with six months mot on it.
well the front screen was held in with plastic bags and filler.
the floor was just steel plates held on with filler.
and when we took the belly pan off, the chassis was not there. lol

i would of failed it as well t/n all welded plates have to be consten weld all way round unless its not with in the 30cms from any point of brakes steering and suspension

i like a nice bit of rust to fail a car on fords are normaly the worse

The second garage said it was perfectly welded. The tacks was close enough together for it to pass.
The mot bloke in question is a relative and him and my dad have never seen eye to eye and this is the reason he failed it.

No, the reason it failed was because it was tack welded...Lutonmat is right. Seen my dad fail one rescently from kwik fit...he even told them it needed to be seam welded before they done it and they still didnt

It was about 10 years ago now but the second tester said it was fine to be tacked as he new my dad would finish the job.
