The insurance on my escort is due in a couple of months and as it failed the MOT in about November its been put on SORN already. This is on my second insurance policy, i run two and thinking about a 3rd. now the question is can i insure a SORN'd car doing 0 miles per year or will the insurance company refuse?

I dont want to ask them and get refused because at the moment i dont have anything to substitute it with. If they do refuse though i will just by a complete heap, although with an MOT, to keep the policy running.

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to insure a SORN'd car, you wouldn't be able to drive it on the road until it was declared roadworthy though but you should be able to insure it

nothing stopping you
know people use to by scrap motors or even vin plates and v5's just to build there ncb up

Not quite bud.

the new legislation dictates that any vehicle that is off the road but NOT declared sorn, must be insured.
a vehicle that is declared sorn does NOT need to be insured :)

Agree with Pikey, the headlines are very misleading here. They are making it out to be a big issues and one that affects SORN'd cars which I do not read it as doing.

Insurers do offer laid up cover where you get fire and theft cover without the Third Party RTA cover. (This I doubt is enough for a non SORN'd car, they really want to see the RTA cover.)

it wont be long and it will have to be insured when the new legislation comes in to force.

Have to take issue on this as well . A car is a possession like a painting. If you dont take it on the road theres no way anyone can make you insure it

Besides using the sorn records wont work anyway.

A little known fact but not all cars off the road need sorn.

When they introduced the sorn documents were only sent to vehicles that were taxed in that year. If your was off the road then and still is now it isnt on the sorn records so doesnt need sorn. Ive specifically checked this as I have a car in long term storage.

but on the topic -of course you can insure a car on sorn Although some insurance comapny may have a problem with 0 miles.

There is a way of not being refused insurance - ask your broker to look to see if he can find a policy for 0 miles. Then get a quote .
