Hi im soon to be 17 and have been looking at cars, some classic, some not. i have always liked the rover p6 an odd choice i know for a 17 year old !! i wanna get the 2200tc model. I did an insurance quote on one with my dad as the main driver ( 6 years no claims and licence for 32 yrs) and me as an extra driver. it came out at a whopping 2100 quid a year !! How can i lower this or can i atall :sad2: this is odviously way too much, considiering i could inure a golf mk4 1.6 for about 900 quid. the car would be on a driveway and only used for about 5000 miles a year. help!!

could be the larger engine displacement along with it being a classic car as such

best bet would be to get yourself through your test and then past plus this will give you a better idea of prices - remembrer most insurance companies will charge more for a newly qualified driver than a learner due to the fact you dont need aybody sitting beside you

all what pg said

and also i think they dont give the discounts on classics till your a bit older know some dont do it till your 21 some 25 and also goes on the car if its a slow old think or a faster one with a big engine

Don't get your parents to "front" your insurance as you will only be covered as an occasional driver.

Try an old Beetle or similar and get a quote from a specialist like Adrian Flux. At 17 the insurance on anything will be prohibitively expensive even on something with a 1.0 engine:(.

Give Peformance Direct a call. It doesn't matter how many NCB you have because if you insure a classic car they don't use NCB. Also you don't earn any NCB on most classic insurance policies.

Actually most you do now thats kit cars, the XJS is gaining NCB on a classic 8000 mile £200 policy.

I was insured with Footman James at 17 on a Hillman Imp. Give them a call but they may not like the engine size (imp was an 900cc). Bonus is I only paid £600 for it. Few mates has MG midgets and were paying about £800 if this helps (1500cc).

Cheers,

Adam
