RACE BUGGY

Tim Hodges Race and Street VW Buggy

Tim took a Manx clone fiberglass buggy, cut it in half, stretched it by a foot, and built a short course off-road rail to fit within it. With the body on it, it has the windshield, lights etc so that its street legal.
However once that is removed, Tim can put on aluminium racing panels on it and go for a hack!! And 'hack' he does! This great little buggy has been all over Colarado including the top of the famous Pikes Peak. .

The motor on the buggy is a 1600cc aircooled engine. He has had the crankshaft counterweighted and the flywheel lightened. The case is set up for full flow to a remote Oberg oil filter. The stock oil cooler is removed to run a remote cooler. Tim uses stock balanced rods and pistons with Total seal rings. The heads are cut for 9:5:1 compression so that he can pump gas or racing fuel. They are also ported to match intakes. Tim has to run a PICT - 30 carb that he's tweaked a little. The exhaust then exits throuh a 1 3/8" exhaust and supertrap muffler.
