VW BUGGY

The story behind the VW Buggy

What exactly is the definition of a Buggy? Well, it is a simple and aerodynamic glass fibre shell, normally in the form of a 2 seater, placed onto a shortened VW Beetle floor pan. Due to the fact that the buggy is generally open topped, there is not as big a Buggy scene in wet countries like Britain, as there is in Australia, or the USA.
The Buggy is renown for the fun you can have in it, and the cheap cost at which you can do so. Like with the VW Beetle though, if you want to spend lots of money, there's ample things to spend it on. There are various looks, wild paint schemes, chromed engines, huge tyres etc that can be explored. With regards to the looks...you will find that in general there are 2 main looks....1) Custom 2)Super street. There are 2 types of buggy to go for...one with a long wheelbase, and the other with a short wheelbase. The long one is obviously more practical and can cater better for passengers, but for a more sporty look, the shorter wheelbase is preferred.
Due to the lightweight of a beach buggy, you don't need as much power to get good performance. A 1200cc engine will see some good 0-60 times, but if you can stretch to a 1600cc, then that's even better.

Whatever choice you make regarding engine, you've got to be ready to make it look good, as it is on show for all to see.
Unlike with the Beetle scene, you are virtually unlimited when it comes to colour scheme. Bright and cheerful is the basic requirement. How you want to apply that, is up to you. Inside the Buggy, yet again your work is cut out. At the same time, due to there being no roof its got to look good, as everyone can see in. Generally speaking try to go for nice sports seats, made by companies like Recaro. It is also advisable to have Gauges dotted around to add to that mean race look. Another thing that will add to the hardcore image is a roll cage. This isn't just for looks, its vital for safety.
Basically, the buggy is one of the cheapest ways to have fun. You don't have to fork out loads, and once you are on the beach or on some tracks on a hot sunny day, there is nothing that can beat the sensation.
