RESTO
CAL BUG 1973:
This is one of the best bugs that we've featured so far. For sheer speed and
acceleration its hard to beat. Styled in the Resto Cal look, Ben has retained
the chrome on the bug, yet has added his own special touches. No sound system,
but then again, you'd need a whole wall of amplifiers to hear any music above
the monstrous sound kicked out by the 1955cc engine. The last quarter mile
time time that Ben got out of the bug was a more than respectable 14.2 secs.
Not one to do things by halves,
Bens forked out serious money on the engine of the VW Beetle. Included
in the shopping list for the engine are a lightened flywheel, counterweighted
76mm crank, stage 2 clutch pressure plate, 90.5mm barel and piston set,
42mm x 37mm magnum plus cylinder heads, and a CB fuel injection kit,
not to mention the 48mil carbs. This is truly a serious motor.
In keeping with the overall style of the car, Ben has chosen EMPI wheels,
and the Cal look setup of Large rear tyres and small front.
The interior is stock apart from a large revcounter mounted on the side
of the footwell, where as from the exterior, this is certainly not standard.
Apart from the wheels and tyres, the front of the Beetle has been slammed
ridiculousl low, courtesy of Spax adjustable suspension.
