2000 Honda S2000
I have a 2000 Honda S2000 and am wanting to start getting into drifting. I mess around every once in awhile in church parking lots and whenever it's raining and easy to drift (this car has no torque), but I would like to start getting more serious about it. Before throwing money into this car.. I would like to know if it will be good for drifting with either a new engine or just a turbo, and obviously a lot more mods. If not, I will sell it and buy an S14 and end up with enough money for a full engine swap straight up. I absolutely love my S2000 and I would only trade it for a handful of high end cars. So, will this car work for drifting or is there no hope for it? Yes, I'm willing to make big changes. Please provide extremely detailed answers. Links to other websites on this topic are welcome. Thank you very much in advance!

Hi and welcome to TC forums.
Not that into drifting personally but have wandered onto the Driftworks website occasionally. There are some drift S2000s out there but have had bundles of specialist custom kit thrown at it. High grip short wheelbase and little low down torque from the Vtec engine means it going to take a major transformation to get it to drift like you want I would imagine.

Yeah, that was my main concern.. The short wheelbase. And if I got serious into drifting, I would do a motor swap. Would it be difficult to extent the wheelbase? Is it a matter of just longer axles or do you have to mess with the whole suspension? What else would I have to tamper with? If I get into drifting and the S2K isn't the best for it, I'm going for an S14.

The S14 is a great base to work from, parts from the newer models will often just slot in! I've seen S14's with S15 front ends etc...

You should aim to make the car stronger than you will require rather than squeeze out the max power for your setup. Drift engines run quite hot and spend lots of time in the upper end of the rev range. If your at the max of what your engine can do it will be a matter of time before it all dies on you.

There are some cars listed on www.driftlock.com which are suitable for drifting plus it gives an intro into the sport for beginners.

I think that you need to look up what 'wheelbase' means :)

Oh wow. I've always thought the 'track' was the wheelbase. Thanks for correcting me on that early on!

Would you guys say the S13/S14/S15 is the best drift car (with mod's)?

If I was to start drifting then a Nissan Sylvia would be my 1st choice as there has been heaps of development and there is so much interchangeability of parts.

RB 25 &26 = Skylines
RB2530 = Skyline RB 25 24 v head on a single cam 12v RB30 block
2JZ = Toyota Supra
1UZ = early Lexus V8
