Pro class Drag racers have large wheels at the back and small ones at the front. Is there any point applying this principle to a road legal drag car?

While your on the road, other than for cosmetic reasons, no. The skinny wheels on the front will make it handle like poo. Just keep a seperate set of wheels specifically for the strip. 8)
I have 205/60R15's on the front and 265/50R15's on the back which isn't too bad, but I wouldn't go any skinnier on the front and I cant physically fit any thing wider on the rear. When the Minor's done that will be running 245/60R15's on the rear and if I can get them 145/80R14's on the front.
