What are the causes of vapor lock in an engine? Does it affect modern fuel injected or FSI engines. What does vapor lock do and how bad is it?

Very rarely affects cars with multipoint injection such as yours, mine and just about all others on the road. Single point cars (those with throttle body injection) should also be immune because the the fuel system is also fully closed and seal back to the tank.

It to do with fuel evaporation when the engine is switched off and the residual heat vapourises the fuel in the float chamber.

Vapour lock is pretty much just a problem on carb-ed engines. It happens when your gas gets too hot and evaporates, can be fixed by different fuel line locations or heat shields
