Those car data people that always call you when yr selling a car....

Because some people are not very forthright when it comes to telling them to f*** off.

I occasionally post the odd bogus free-ad just to wind 'em up.

They phone and say there's 14 people looking to buy my car.

How do they know this when it's not on their database?

Might be worth putting 'no canvassers' in you advert. It'll discourage the less determined ones.

I know - they're all struggling for business at the moment. I get hammered by all sorts of cold callers though. They go through the YP and find businesses to whom they try to sell business services.

I get the lot:

Electrical Appliance Testing (I work from home, so I'm exempt);

Health and Safety (same);

HR and Personnel (I work alone);

Mobile/Fixed phones (I have them already);

IT Services (f***in' 'ell, I'm a bloody IT consultant, can't they READ?).

You're not alone but I do agree the Cardata lot are very very aggressive.

PS - I'm PMed you a link to a handy little site which gives 85% and towing weights for various UK cars. X5 is actually heavier than the LRD !!

I think these people are unscrupulous. They call PROMISING enquiries and leads and produce nothing. Too many people do it then write it off as a bad experience. If more people demanded a refund on the basis that the seller lied it might put these people off.

The other scams you get are people abroad wanting to buy your car, wire more money to you to cover shipping and arrange for an "agent" to collect the car. You pay the extra money to the agent and then you find the original payment is cancelled and are left with no car, and a monetary loss.

I get all those too HDI! I work from home and was told that I need appliance testing! (Simply not true).

I also had the performing rights people on telling me I need to pay a fee to listen to music in my own home whilst I work! (This also is incorrect - you only pay that if the public can hear the music.)

I am also an SEO specialist and I get lots of emails saying "you're not on the front page of google for your business terms (which I AM!) and offering to help me get to the top!"

had one phone from india today.
claimed they were from microsoft.
said they were monitoring my pc and it was about to crash.

funny that cos it wasn't on.

they went quiet when i told them my son works for microsoft and that i'd pass on their name and details to him for verification.

I had a call from someone in Africa last week informing me that a relative had died a couple of months ago and that I stand to inherit £8 million! all they wanted was a 10% finders fee and my bank account details and they would handle the rest!!! :lol:

Took me nearly 10 minutes to stop laughing! Bless em!

We get the international scammers a lot with the horses as well. Exactly the same thing, wire over money for more than the cost etc etc.

I found this on the Car Data lot. It's from the Mirror but ignore that bit. I know it happens but I'm still amazed at the amount of people that fall for it. Surely there really should be something to make people more aware of it.
