Is there a need for a spoiler (either front or rear) to provide down thrust in drag racing or do you think that the extra turbulance it causes will lose more time that it saves you?

Depends how fast your going and on the weight of the car. I have seen video clips of cars simply taking off due to lack of weight and downforce.
