spanner light on dash

Hi all, new to the forum so this is my first post, my daughter has just bought a peugeot 206, 14 petrol,as a first car to learn to drive, it is quite high milage 100000 plus, but goes very well,bought off a family member who had the car from new, problem is on the dash there is a spanner light, could anyone tell me what this is??, I'm not very mechanically minded as you might guess. thanks in advance mike.

hey and welcome.
its engine managment light.
its basically there to show that there is a fault in one of the modules. it could well be something as simple as its registered a missfire. the only way to find out would be to het a diagnostic tool onto it

Yeah - get it reset firstly it's very probable it'll not recur if it was just a passing misfire as PG says.

^ ^ ^ Ahhah - yes. Well remembered Mr Herb. It is indeed. You can reset it yourself using the odometer reset button and the ignition key. Can't remember the sequence but I will try and find it for the original poster.

I seem to recall it was documented in the owner's manual so it's not naughty.

Sadly you still have to get the car serviced though
