when i start my car from cold i get loads of blueish smoke.it clears once it is warm .it does not use a lot of oil.i just wondered if all these engines were like this,it has plenty of power no probs running wise.any advice.cheers chaps

Change your glow plugs,

One of the clylinders isn't firing up straight away when you turn the engine over because the combustion chamber isn't getting hot enough,

only one of them will have gone but it's a false economy not to change the whole set, don't pay more than £45 for a set of glow plugs

mines been doing the same thing recently i thort it was this cold weather but i guess not ill get straight on that i think nice one jarrus!

On the hdi it isn't so important to change the glow plugs cause it's direct inject, I would bet they buggered up ages ago and you hadn't noticed, but cause they weather is cold the car will use them more and will be than likely be causeing your bad start, if you change your glow plugs and it still happens then it's more likely to be something serious....

Nailz and Mark, how many miles has your cars done?

mine has done 131000.it had some new glow plugs about 2 years ago.how long do they last.the old lady i got the car off bought it when it was 2 years old she had all the reciepts for all the work she had done full service history all mots.it had a new engine at 40000 miles have got the reciept for the engine change.it threw a conrod.it was done at clock garage.she had it for 8 years.

I found out that later model engines do like to though rods, which makes me kind of scared, apparantly there were a batch of engines that were fitted with the 1.9D na conrods instead of the turbo ones,

131k miles is nothing for those engines it should see you well over 200k and the rest,
mine has done now 72k, similar situation, it was a granny car, but mine had it from new and took it back to a pug dealer everytime for a service, and I bought it with 25.5k miles on it nearly 4 years ago! I could believe it but all the past MOT's were there and a full peugeot service history and the interior was mint (it doesn't stay like that for long)
I bought it from a Pug dealer in chesterfield for £3000, was a little over priced but I knew I wasn't ever in a million years going to find one with such low milage again so I bought it straight away :)

mines done 99k its gettin to the piont were everything needs a good servise doin i rekon ie cambelt fan belt fuel filter ect another thing i noticed was that i have a little oil leak out of the front of my intercooler?? do you rekon the turbo seals have gone?

Yeah definately, if there is oil coming from there then the turbo is fecked, best just to replace it rather than mess about replacing seals, hell I'd even look into upgrading ;)

yeah init jib that ill ask santa for a hybrid for christmas i rekon haha

There will usually be some fine oil mist in the downstream intake tract of any turbocharged car but this sounds a little excessive.

New turbo I reckon. Don't mess about with seals, let the turbo re-conditioning specialists deal with it and get an exchange unit.
