evening gentlemen this fault is in my best friennds car and i cant solve it !! i only looked at it last night but the story goes :- car has a straight thru exhaust so lambda/02 sensors have MIL/EML light on solid constantly. cars cyl 3 coil went down a few months back and was driven for maybe two/three days on three cylinders (idiot i know!! lol) now after replacing dodgy coil the car has slowly begun to develop a intermitant misfire!! .

Misfire happens between 1000/1500 rpm at half throttle in high gears mostly and splutters under full throttle in 1st gear ..

i feel car is defenitly running rich but otherwise runs ok no unusual smoke or leaks but coolant was realli low . car has had lots of previous work as it is driven like it has been stolen !!

50k on it has had 2 clutches -gearbox-rear wheel cylinders+shoes-handbrake cables-bottom ball joint-multiple coils-plugs-alternator-injector(2009) it is (Removed disguised attempt at swearing as per our T&C's) lol , i couldnt see that its a burnt valve or rings as fault would travel through rpm range yet hydraulic lock may have happened in cyl 3 due to be driven with no spark or dodgey inject fauly coil or sprak plug :-S any idea's before i start lol cheers lads :) Enjoy

Re: s##ty seat ibiza problem hard to crack!!

My guess is a dodgy spark plug, bad lead or a failed catalyst!

Re: s##ty seat ibiza problem hard to crack!!

if the ECU is looking to the exhaust then thats possibly where your issue lies.

put a cat back on and clear all codes see if it clears up

Re: s##ty seat ibiza problem hard to crack!!

that new i would put all the sensors back on cat on they hate not being able to read everything

i would say a spark plug as well and if it is running rich it could lead to a burnt out valve as they are not made to run rich

Re: s##ty seat ibiza problem hard to crack!!

cheers lads three inch straight through on it for over two years wouldnt help, i suspect the coil going down wouldnt have helped the spark plug so i will replace plugs and hope the piece of dung fix's until something else falls off it ! Regards T.J
