A friend has a car windscreen with loads of micro scratches from the wiper blades.

In the wet it leaves terrible streaks.

Is there a way to polish out these tiny scratches and repair the surface of the windscreen?

It takes a long time. You'll need a very powerful and slow polisher or drill. Heat can crack the windscreen so be careful.

Some abrasive polishes will just fog up the screen instead of smoothing it out.

If you are not careful you will create a lense effect on the polished area of the screen. You have to remove a layer of glass to match the scratch depth and to avoid lensing you have to cover quite a wide area and IT IS NOT EASY TO DO!

There is also a resin which sets in UV light, you use this to repair bullseye cracks but you could just smooth it into the crack with a blade, let it harden and the scratch will be reduced substantially.

Compounds to try: Cerium Oxide, Jewellers rough and glass repair polish.

Micromesh wet and dry can remove scratches.

Replacing the windscreen is generally the easiest and cheapest hassle free way to deal with scratches.
