rear diff

The rear diff on my a3 18t quattro has started to make a noise i've been told it needs replacing.Ican't afford a new one as Audi want silly money.So I'm looking at getting one from a breakers,does it have to be from the same spec car or do other A series diffs fit?

as far as i know its the same diff on the a3, s3, tt, 4motion golfs 2.8 and r32 ANd bora v6

sorry cant check it out as havent yet installed my etka, but another member had an issue with his and found an R32 golf one it checked out the same part number

Try aftermarket suppliers as well like Quaife. They are stronger and geard towards performance and often do not cost much compared with the official Audi ones.

There is a market for reconditioned diffs. I wonder if anyone does these?

Thanks for the advice but I managed to find a reconditioned diff, so I puckered up and pulled out the plastic.Its out for delivery tomorrow, so should be fitted sometime next week.But thank you all for your responses.Now for the overtime.
