Golf 1 2 door

hi all

its been a long time .but i guess thats what married life does to a person ...lol

i bought a golf 1 2 door shell and im puting a 2l gti golf 3 engine it
will that be fine like that or should i still make the chassie a bit stronger
as i want to mdfy the engine a bit

2l 8v or 16v?

either way the mk1 can handle it. Iv built and helped others build 2l 16v ABF powered mk1's and never had a problem with them in that respect.

or what can i do to the engine to get a bit more power out of it

Yes it will be quicker than a standard mk1 GTI. For best results with that engine use a mk2 golf 1.6/1.8 driver gearbox. they have slightly taller ratios meaning you get more speed up in each gear. believe me that box really suits the mk3 2l 8v engine. i had that setup in a mk2 golf, and could push 2l 16v Seat ibizas up the road up to 90mph.
In a mk1 its all about acceleration, top speed isnt what you want in a mk1 as they are about as aerodynamic as a brick! anything over 115mph ish and they dont feel all that settled without serious chassis investment!
