Hello people,

i dont have a car yet... but i was planning on getting a classic ausitn mini.

i want to go to univeristy to do product design, and i thought doing a car restoration would make a good portfolio project.

i would also like to keep the car afterwards for maybe a few years, and i have been told putting a better enigne in (say a 1.4TDI) would get me much more fuel economy, power and of course last longer/more reliable... in the long run, potentially save some money and hassle maintaining the stock engine.
((( i am open to any other suggestions about what engine could go in whatever )))

could any of you reading this please give me some advice about
where to start...
what to do...
how much is it likley to cost....
should i do it myself or professionally...
is it worth doing...
or if you know of any websites/videos/magazines whatever that could give me some more adivise and help about this?

thanks, Alex.

Putting an engine in from a totally different car is quite a challenge....

what I would do is buy a whole car with the engine that you want in it and take the engine out to use in your car then you'll have a better starting point...

after that you're kind of on your own... I've never seen a 1.4 TDi conversion done on a mini.... so I can't help you unfortunately... would love to see the outcome though :)
