Choke

Sorry for being ignorant but......
I just bought myself a '92 Pug 106. I've never had a manual choke car before and am having a little trouble with it. When I'm driving along my choke light will come on. Why is this?
If I fiddle with the choke a little it will go off again, but only temporarily. Half a mile down the road the light will be back on again.
Any info will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

In my old cars with manual choke the light came on to tell you the choke was on so if yours is coming on I suggest it is a dodgy contact. I cant imagine it knows you need the choke and is telling you to turn it on. All the switch does is increase the fuel and you notice slightly higher revs and is vital on a cold day.

I suspect it may be a dodgy contact cos when I turn the choke off it is idling at around 1000rpm and when I pull the choke out it idles at about 2200rpm.
So I think you may be right. Thanks for the reply.
