i might be lookign to get one of these for drift/sprint use but i would like more info on moddign the engine~

thank adz

They are a really good starter car for drifting the power band is just right, nicely balanced. They cost a fortune to buy now. I would stick fairly standard and go for lightening the car - this has better dividends in drifting. A limited slip diff 2 way 4.778 final drive would also be needed. You could add an APEXi SAFC II fuel controller too.

Here's some specifics:-
AE92 big port engine (red top) Toda cams 304/288 duration 8.5mm lift.

Toda adjustable cam pulleys, NGK R plugs, OER Quad throttle body kit with pipercross or K&N Filters.

Exhaust - Trust DD exhaust.

Tein coilovers front on the rear use TRD blue SS 8 way adjustable shock.

Stick on some 9x14in rims with 185/60/14 Yoko A539 (Cjheck the tyre size i'm not too sure of that!)

i did see a fully modded one on ebay 10k but had all of that apart from 15 inch rims and the r tuning bodykit but was also turbocharged nearly went for it untill i realised 10k would kill me lol and so would my girlfriend

People only sell modded ones if they are about to die. You are better off getting a standard car and doing a restoration / rebuild yourself.

hummm good point i have alot of conctacts in japan one a good mate of mien is a translator i was thinking of getting him to have a look about for me

MKI ford escort - put a 2.0 sierra engine in and you have a good drift car with low insurance.

koool what about the nissan range i was thinking i saw a well nice car yesterday not fully sure that it was i thought it was a nissan 180 but it was small and compact coupe looked awsome and i cant find an insurants groupe for it.

if non of these work out(save and wait a lil wial) to be my ideal car im gunna get my mat in japan to look out for a high spect rev 3 mr2.

but this is a last resort

hey na not that one its a nissan 180 sx i think, im not sure of the insureants groupe engine spec ect ect but iv seen the kit and rims set up i like :p

g-force system

i recently purchased a coupleof g-forcemeters for my car
igave the others to my mates, and ihave realised that there is a mode which adds up all the g-force from when you press begin and when you press stop.
i have found it very useful for races which involve things like who can get most side ways. i recommended it to the club i go to, now its become a popular race, its easy to use

lol ok well i found out that its a jap import its another modle of the silver it cums with 1.8, and 2.0 dohc 16v rwd turbo and non turbo but thats it so far looking for more info

An ae86 is a great drift car, you can start off with a standard car and build it up as you improve the amount of stuff available is unreal, AE86 for ever :D

the ae86 is rwd dont get aything higher cuz there all fwd, its pretty hard to find hatchis now for cheap but if u do get one theres lots of aftermarket parts for them. the 180 is a great car for drifting, also lots of aftermarket parts, pretty much drift ready even if its completly stock haha

A86s are incredibly sought after possibly even more so in Japan.
Cheap ones simply do not exist unless they are basket cases.

For drifting your should maybe look at the S3/14/15 etc or maybe a four door skyline
much cheaper and very easy to tune and set up. very popular in the drift scene,
Parts are cheap as well . As far as uprading is concerned the skyline engines fit straight in although the stock engine is very tunable . Diffs etc easy to find wheras you try geting an lsd for an 86

TBH you have missed the boat for an AE86 although if you do find one you will always be able to sell it easily.
Possibly to much money to be a serious drfit car . If you hit something ( always happens eventually) you cant just get new panels down the road like any of the sx series

You'll have to post us up a project thread jokerswild we'd love to read more about it. (You'll need 10 posts though before you can post pics up but I'm sure you'll get there in no time at all!)

ya i need to start posting then. shes pretty much done now which is kind of a bummer. I get just as much enjoyment upgrading cars as i do driving them! I really just need to get it mapped and she will be done. here is a spec list of what ive done to her.

Yup, we don't do it for profit! there is something special about driving a perfectly set up car isn't there.

MKI ford escort - put a 2.0 sierra engine in and you have a good drift car with low insurance.

That won't cost less than £10k!

Standard engine in an AE86 is the 4A-GE; 90 odd torques depending on who you read. It used to be possible to get the supercharged version imported for about £1,000.

The 4A-GE is the same engine as in the Mk1 MR2 (AW11) so it should still be(relatively) easy to get standard and 'performance' parts.
