orite everyone. i have just bought a 1997 pug 1.9 turbo diesel, the car is standard and i was just wondering how i could tune it for a bit more torque and bhp! i have been told to take it to a shop called derv doctor in Ashbourne,Derby. I have been told that for just over £100 i can have my wastegate shortened and boost increase.
I was just wondering if u could help me out by giving me some useful info about tuning my car and maybe even internet sites.

Thanks for that ,
Greg :)

Get your ECU remapped and you should see a substantial gain in BHP and silly torque.

Diesels with decent remaps or on superchips are becoming very popular.. Its stupid how quick they can be on standard internals.

Agree with Freddie and the things still give 100mpg (Ok I exaggerate a little) Golf GTTDi 0-60 6.7 seconds 200 bhp froma chip costing £250! (May mate could be lying but it did feel quick and we still saw an average of 47mpg! )

that site will tell you everything you need to know except about adjusting your max engine speed....I can tell you If you drop me a PM

Hello all.
I'm not really into big tuning but I have installed K&N apollo cis to my 1.8 16V and it has shown some good improvement to the low end acceleration through which I mean 0-60.
I want to know what would be a good bolt on modification to increase acceleration through 60-100?
I have had some ideas of making my own ram air duct or perhaps introducing an fse boost valve. Am I dreaming or would these modifications make any difference?
All reccomendations welcome.

youve started on the breathing, why not do more and get the exhuast sorted
fuel pressure regs dont give any power but can sharpen throttle response.
ram system dont really work at road speeds
what about weight lose ?

and welcome to the site

You cannot remap the 1905cc XUD engines as they are mechanically controlled diesel engines. It is possible to play with the wastegate actuator rod and increase the maximum available boost pressure. It's a blunt instrument though and getting the fuel delivery precise enough is virtually impossible. Generally what happens is that you wind up with a smoky and thirsty car which might well have a fwe more BHP at 4000rpm but offers little increase in performance elsewhere in the rev range.

Do exhausts make a big difference then? I guess ideally I was looking for modifications that wudn't convert the car too much from standard; just for a bit of fun; as I intended on selling the car in future cos its low mileage. Any other ideas?

I have a 306 DT 1999 160BHp
You can help for me where to buy a Torsen from BE3 gearbox?
THX

How did you manage 160bhp from an IDI diesel?

Hey, I have a 1997 306 gti6. Ive had it for a couple of years but have now decided to tune it. I was thinking a pod filter and lowering springs. I had a look and was wondering what you think is best. Maybe koni springs and a k&n pod filter?
Thanks
dave

A friend of a friends GTi-6. Supercharged running 260bhp at 7psi on a Rotrex supercharger and a Chip wizards map standard internals. Capable of 500bhp on a full build. If you want performance, supercharging your 6 is the best option by a mile.

Yea i would love to supercharge but dont have a whole lot of money to spend. Ive got NZ$1000-1500, which is about 400-600 pounds.

A few members over here have got superchargers from the breakers yard from the Mini cooper S and managed to bolt these on. It should come in a lot cheaper than a new supercharger.;) Welcome to TorqueCars.

That not true...if you do a proper job and it's not hard to do then you will notice a big difference all arcoss the range.... just got to remember not to go all the way with the wastegate

I didn't think the 2.1 td lump had a bosch pump...that looks like a 1.9 bosch pump...I think the 2.1 only had a lucus pump

160 hp is possible though from those mods it's all down to how well they have modded the fuel pump like what heads they have used and cam plate

but stock clutch....now that is opitmistic....
