How to Prevent Air Bubbles Showing Up During and After Car Paint?

Fish eyes look somewhat like a bubble , caused by surface contamination . They make an additive called fish eye stopper to prevent it . Another problem is moisture ( high humidity ) coming through your air line causing water bubbles . This is harder to prevent but drain your tank often and...

Your thoughts on stanced cars, are they safe

Like anything , if it is done correctly it will be as safe or even more so than stock . I have lowered my front end 3" by using drop spindles and added 6 degrees caster to it . My camber is exactly in specs . Over the winter I am going to raise the rear suspension into the chassis which will...

    How dangerous is drag racing?

I have raced at Warner Robbins dragstrip with my bug , here is a video of the race track where C130 lives , As far as drag racing being dangerous , its all about safety equipment and car preparation.I broke an axle at a race, put me into a wall before I could do anything , the only thing that...

    My Corvair project

Having owned three Corvairs and driven each very aggressively I disagree with their being a bad car . The last one I owned was a 1965 and was a great car, actually handled pretty good with " Wide Ovals " on it , lol if you know what those were.

Which are the best oil brands to use

Since all 6 turbos I have use bushings rather than ball bearings I will keep that article where its at, thanks again for posting it. Just a question , would anyone here be interested in seeing an engine build be posted on here ? I have a 2332 cc turbo VW type 1 engine a friend ( Dave Kawell )...

Modding a car or buying a finished project

JMHO The positive thing is you will normally save a lot of money buying a finished product . The negative thing is depending on the builders ability to do the build properly you may end up with a piece of junk that you end up having to rebuild to a quality unit at even more cost.

Which are the best oil brands to use

Years ago with oil that was no where near as good as we have today I used to see sludge accumulations on top of the cylinder heads . Today not so much, I believe the formulations today do a better job of keeping the engine cleaner . Having said that I am not a big believer in performing engine...

    BEETLE CRAZY

To me it is like going on a road trip , you decide where you are going to end up and then plan the route. Be realistic with yourself and decide how much power you want and how big your budget is . I purchased my parts one at a time until I had enough to assemble something . It actually took me...

    BEETLE CRAZY

I am very biased but why not build your bug engine up ? I have a 1966 bug with a 2387 turbo engine I drive on the street so it can be done. My engine bolts right in just like yours and has eight times the HP that it came with from the factory . A 1776 or 1915 turbo engine would be alot of fun...

Which are the best oil brands to use

My requirements for oil may be different than yours , I am very meticulous about what is in the formulation of the oil I use so I can help prevent my flat tappet cam and lifters from deteriorating . Worst thing you've done to your car

    super or Turbo??

Thank you , it was a blast to drive. The point I was trying to make was that just like anything to gain something you will sacrifice something else . Making my car faster?

My response was removed ? A small shot of Nitrous (wet system) will do no damage unless the engine is already damaged. I have added a single Pro Fogger nozzle to an otherwise stock engine multiple times and had great results when common sense directed my power level selection.

    VW Beetle Engine Help/Options??

I wish I had been on here when this question had been posted, LOL . My 1966 VW Bug has 400 flywheel HP and 366 rwhp and I drive it on the street. When I had it my race car it went 6.35 in the 1/8th mile . To answer the original question yes you can use many of your original parts to increase...

What do i need to service a car?

I guess I have been lucky, my Passat 2012 TDI has over 100,000 miles, gets 46 mpg combined city/hwy and has not given me any problems so far. My 1966 bug has 8 times the HP (400 @ flywheel ) that it came with and is a joy to drive as my hobby car . I have not experienced any cheap priced parts...

What motor trade related jobs have you done/are you in?

What do i need to service a car?

I would take the owners/ maintenance manuals out of the glove box and read the manufacturers recommended mileage recommendations. Usually they will have the intervals and which things that need to be done and at which mileage . As suggested I would use their fluid specs as a choice . Spark plugs...

My first auto mechanics school was when I was 17 years old , I have been a mechanic all my adult life and I am 64 years old now. I am retired but still work in my garage every day on my new race / street car . I was the night time shop foreman at a Ford dealership and was responsible for...

    Oil catch can

I do not know anything about your car or how it is plumbed so anything I suggest is merely an attempt to help by a stranger. I am guessing you do have a PCV system , is the loss of vacuum by using a catch can going to effect that ? If so I would suggest using a spring loaded ball ( check valve)...

    Oil catch can

A better choice than a catch can would be an oil separator /vent system. I made mine for my turbo race engine so that when on boost the blow by would push oil into my container , inside the container are baffles which separate oil from air . As soon as I am off boost the liquid oil returns back...

How would you define a MUSCLE CAR?

Thanks, the exact same engine was installed into my 66 bug without any change other than lowering my boost. It does not handle great on curves but is a blast to cruise around in. How would you define a MUSCLE CAR?

WOW , LOL . I grew up during the muscle car era in Michigan , USA . I was too young (17)to own a real muscle car but my uncles all did . To me it was a lot more than just the cars , it was a lifestyle and a great time be alive. We would "cruise the inns " ( drive Inns ) looking for races and...

How to build a 10 second car

To do it more than one time can be real expensive. On my drag bug I had a 2387 turbo type 1 in a 1500 lb car , it ran 6.3s in the 1/8th mile . I have videos to back it up when I get enough posts on here. I probably spent $20,000.00 USD but after racing all those years I am still driving the...

    170bhp 1.4 Turbo vs 2.0 NASP

I have 2 turbo cars so I am a little biased. The TDI amazes me with the power it has and the unreal mileage . My street car is a 2387 turbo type 1 Beetle , its a blast to drive . I would definitely pick the 1.4 for the combination of fuel mileage and equal power output over the 2.0 that has to...

Ceramic exhaust coatings and exhaust wraps

Ceramic exhaust coatings and exhaust wraps

Stainless is nice , and expensive too . I usually use about 75 ft to wrap my headers for around a US Dollar per ft. I overlap more than most do , soak in water before installation and stretch it tight , when you start it up the engine first time the water cooks off and tightens the wrap even...
