Lockdown car care tips and reminders

Hi Waynne, The one that springs to mind is the handbrake. Unless absolutely necessary to apply it, it's an idea to leave it off & select a gear instead, I always use reverse. Even after having the car washed, if it stays put for a while, the handbrake really does grab the discs. Standing by for...

    "Pinking" Diesel

Like I said, it's been like this from new. It's still on record of my concern about the rattle, so if it does let go of a piston, at least they were warned. But to be honest I can live with it, the rattle I mean, piston going adrift? now that would be different. :(

    "Pinking" Diesel

Hi Waynne, Didn't think my last post on this subject had gone through, as, realising I'd broached this in 2014 I cancelled the new post. Anyway, there's no change whatsoever, still "pinking" but then there are times when it doesn't?? So I'm no longer perturbed about it, I just ease off the gas &...

Are satnavs dead thanks to mobile phones

My Tom Tom satnav, the antique Go 700, is the size of half an household brick ;b/ & probably weighs as much, but it does all I ask of it. "Jane" gets me to where I need to be. I made a quick release for the unit, (no sticky-on) marks on the screen & when removed there's no sign of any attachment...

    "Pinking" Diesel

Crickey! doesn't time fly? I've just read through my OP & realised that I hadn't updated it. The "pinking" is still there, occasionally, & I'm not too concerned with it. I had the fuelling checked at the dealership & all was as it should be. Now that the engine has covered 18k+ & the mpg is...

    "Pinking" Diesel

Happy New Year one & all. The warranty job involves the heater speeds. Only #4 is operational, #1, 2, & 3, aren't. The last update from Renault was that the part has arrived in France !! & that hopefully it will be available to be fitted around the end of this month. So the "pinking" question...

    "Pinking" Diesel

Nah! unless Morrisons have changed the rating in the pumps I always use.

    "Pinking" Diesel

Hi all, just to wrap this thread up. I became aware that the "pinking" had sort of, erm! stopped? Now I haven't a clue why, after 7k mls, if it was possibly that the engine being new, that this phenomenon was the norm on this motor, but why should it be? Anyway, it goes in for a minor warranty...

    "Pinking" Diesel

Haven't contacted the dealership yet, been away. I will post up when I've spoken to the service dept, hopefully on Monday.

    "Pinking" Diesel

Thanks, The car has only done app 6k, & has had a new CAT fitted as there was a bad vibe at certain speeds, under certain loads. Other than the pinking, it runs fine, has a good turn of speed, but the closeness of the ratios between 2nd & 3rd leaves a lot to be desired, it can be gutless going...

    "Pinking" Diesel

Hi all, Not sure if this is an issue with my Dacia Duster Laurette, but from the day I bought it new, accelerating away results in a very pronounced "pinking" as used to be experienced with petrol engines, but even more pronounced. If I ease of the throttle it stops, but there are occasions when...

    Car alarms

After making some alarming enquiries, (ouch) I've arranged for a Clifford Can Bus alarm to be fitted at my home by GAP Security Systems. They seem to receive very good reviews, we'll see. I'll post up when the job's been done & dusted on my er! Duster (sorry!)

    Car alarms

Well rather than wait for a reply to my email I rang them, their reply was that they don't have an approved list of alarms, but as long as it's Thatcham Cat 1 it's approved. My insurer is Aviva. @adam1983. When I was a 'biker one of our lot had a proximity alarm which gave an audible warning to...

    Car alarms

Hi all. Had my new motor since early October (63 plate) & some lowlife has taken a screwdriver to the drivers door lock. In a way I feel somewhat lucky. A, were they disturbed & legged it, or B, did they give up & walk away. Only slight damage & not too noticeable, BUT, why do I feel lucky? If...

    Old newbie!

Thanks for your welcome. @Yugguy so far I'm happy with the Duster especially the MPG. Only done app 550 miles so far, bit of turbo lag in 3rd but otherwise I can feel she wants to gooooooooooo! No where near as much storage as in the Berlingo, but I'mm happy with it.

    Mpg

Point taken again Steve, & of course, you're right. Cheers Edit. Just checked with my service manager at the dealership, who confirms your answer. Note to oneself, "keep up to date"

    Mpg

I know it's early morning & my brain probably isn't in gear yet, plus I'm old, but foot off in gear ie transmission now driving engine still = fuel being used!

    Mpg

@ old-git, I think! Good point that. I've heard of that scenario before, I'll ask the question.

    Mpg

Hello all, just done a 1st MPG check on my new motor (using this site of course) & I'm staggered at the result. I took delivery of my Dacia Duster 4x4 Laureate on Tuesday last with a full tank. Mileage covered... 414, fuel added to click off...36.83ltrs......MPG coming out at 51.1??? That's...
