Noise still there after oil change so got it booked in with a BMW specialist next week who will strip down the engine and find out what the exact problem is but he suspects that it is the hydraulic tappets. Unfortunately i am going to fork out the bill as the noise is driving me round the bend...

Got it all done today so will see how it goes in the morning with the new oil and filter

i will do its going down to bmw the morn for them to pinpoint this noise coud u point me in the way as to were the oil filter is as cant bloody fined it in the engine bay and i dont see it on the engine block

hi there my engine is the e46 and it does not have an oil pressure gage hope this helps

i would not know sorry.is there away i could check the noise does go after the engine reaches its running temp i have changed the oil/ ht leads/ air filter/ treated the engine with flush before i changed the oil and added hydraulic lifter cleaner its driving me mad with worry so much am thinking...

I have checked the dipstick and it looks like it is at maximum level but the light still pops on a couple of times through the day but goes off after about 10-15 secs

Its a yellow light. is this a good sign as i just filled it with oil yesterday when i got it.

Hi, its booked in for a full service just to be safe and then will go from there. Dont have any lights that pop on just the usual instrument lights then go off. The oil light stays on for about 10-15 secs then goes off thats about it. Thanks
