    Faster=Better MPG

Yes, I've find that high speeds on the open road tend to favour a large / more powerful engine. I get the same highway economy from a twin turbo V6 as I do from a 1.8 Corolla that I hired - the athe TTV6 was a lot more fun! High revs, steep hills and having to thrash the Corolla when...

    Nissan 300zxtt- 90

The 300ZX is renowned for its tight engine bay and lots of mechanics don't like to work on them or charge an arm and a leg to do so. At 1,200HP, you'll be wanting to do more than just the transmission (think brakes, suspension, tyres etc). Traction is going to be a bit of an issue too!

    Are you an overtaker?

Depends on which car I'm driving. If it's the "fast" manual car, then I overtake often as I find being stuck behind, next to or near cautious drivers often ends in grief due to the indecision. If I'm in the missus' slower auto car, then I don't overtake as often and just sit back most of...

    Hot hatch shoot out

If they've improved the quality and reliability, then I'd definitely consider one, especially considering that the new RS265 has just set the fastest FWD record at the Nurburgring.

    Turbo charging a 2003 2.0 fsi A4

Agree with Yugguy. Cost, convenience, reliability, legality etc all point to selling the FSI and buying a TSFI. Remember, it's not just a case of "bolt on a turbo and she'll be right". upgraded brakes, suspension, cooling, internals etc are also usually involved.

Although Renault make some cracker hot hatches, I do agree that they have a history or perception of poor build quality. Fast but fast to fall apart too?!

    S2000 advice needed!!

The S2000's weakness is torque, or lack of it. I'd be looking at a supercharger or turbocharger kit.

    Does fastest mean best

I would rather set a slower lap time in a RWD car that helped me improve my throttle and steering control, corner entry, gear changes, and power out, as opposed to being fast in a powerful, AWD with DSG and all the electronic nannies. It's for the same reason why I like a manual more than a...

    best affordable practical performance car

The Legnums are excellent value for money. Twin turbo V6, AYC from the Evos, AWD and you can throw a mattress in the back! Just be careful if you choose the tiptronic box. Once they go bang, it won't be cheap to replace.

HI there just giot my first Supra

Welcome! The Supras resond magnificently to mods. It's not uncommon to see daily driven Supras that run 10 second passes. Let us know how you go with the turbo swap.

    more power

Being a small capacity, naturally aspirated engine, it won't be easy or cheap to obtain big power gains. What kind of power gains are you after? What's your budget? Budget will help us determine whether we're talking about induction and exhaust mods, or super / turbo charger kits.

    Hot hatch shoot out

Wayne and Yugguy are right - the Megane they tested is the "normal" Megane RS250. Both the Golf GTI and Civic Type R weigh less than the RS250. The stripped out Megane you're thinking about is the Menage 225 R26.R, which is basically a race spec car for the road...

    Is this "buyer" a hoax?

100% scam. Run if you ever see the words Paypal, Western Union, going through a divorce, don't need to inspect the car, am on an oil rig, am overseas, will use a delivery agent, will pay you more than the asking price etc.

low rpm turbo = better fuel economy ??

They can make a huge difference. That's why hybrids and other economy cars run skinny, low resistance tyres. It's also why manuals tend to be more economical than your conventional auto. The manual usually has anywhere between 5 to 6 gears, compared to an old school auto's 4 gears. This...

    Best bits about driving

Just needs more practice. Try it when you're stationary and in neutral with handbrake up, so you can get a good feel for where the pedals are and how they offset each other. Just sit there and try braking with your toe whilst blipping the throttle with your heel. I find that flat, tight...

How to make a 10 second car

A lot of money - lol! Seriously, the general principles are more power, more traction, less weight, appropriate gearing, less drag, a drag auto with stall kit (allows more consistent runs), massive balls.

    Performance cars reliability

I'm guessing more deterioration. High performance cars typically rev higher and harder (especially NA engines). The tolerances are finer. Many have launch control (not great for the drive train). Higher levels of power and torque usually also mean more wear and tear on the car, especially if...

    Your figures vs manufacturers

In general, I find it almost impossible to match the manufacturer's claims on mileage and acceleration. I found out the reason - many use pro race drivers for their acceleration tests (and the tests are done in perfect conditions).

low rpm turbo = better fuel economy ??

Don't forget that it's not just the engine that affects economy, so "putting engine X in car Y" won't magically reproduce the same economy. Other factors include gearing (the Integra Type R has VERY short gearing), aerodynamics, weight, drag, tyre selection. To answer your second question, I...

    Hot hatch shoot out

Agree with Waynne. The Megane really surprised me. Didn't have the most power or torque. Didn't have AWD. Wasn't the most expensive to buy, yet, it smoked all on the circuit.

    Hot hatch shoot out

http://motorv8me.com/car-news-articles/what-happened-to-the-type-r-spirit Some interesting observations - Focus RS had the most power and torque but wasn't the quickest around a circuit. The Megane must have some witch craft done to it, beating all comers on the circuit, including the AWD...

turbo torque power (S3) vs high rpm power (Civic type R) ??

The opposite might be true! A much higher redline means engine and drive train components spin a lot faster and are under more duress, with increased wear and tear. A typical example is that most Honda Type R cars do not come with an automatic transmission. Part of this is due to the Type R...

    FTO Good vs Bad

FTOs look faster than they are. Fun handling, but not as hardcore and track focused as a Honda Type R (which may be a good thing if you don't do a lot of track days and use it as a daily driver). Backseat is for midgets. 4 speed tiptronic box sounds good in theory but slow in practice...

    Twin Turbo

The larger capacity engine does help. However, the Supra just had a better set up, with less of a torque hole between the handover from the small to larger turbo charger. Here's a good comparison between the set ups in both cars: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_109201/article.html...

Are the ultimate sleepers or Q cars Nissans

Not sure if the Pulsar GTI-R is a great sleeper - look at the monster bonnet scoop! Audi make some excellent sleepers too (think RS4, RS6). Mitsubishi have some good, affordable sleepers eg. Galant / Legnum VR-4.

What is your perfect power band

Torquey response at real world revs (under 4,000rpm) and then huge top end kick when you're giving it. I'm struggling to think of a real world everyday car that does that. Lambos abd Veyrons aren't very affordable for the average person!

    Are smokers more dangerous drivers

Any activity where you constantly have one hand off the steering wheel increases the risk, IMO. Having said that, a lot of non-smokers drive with only one hand on the wheel!

The top 3 engine mods for power

It's hard to answer this question because the best 3 mods will depend on the type of engine. For example, a car that is already factory turbo charged might benefit from an upgraded intercooler, exhaust and more boost. However, a NA car is going to need 3 very different kins od mods to do its...

    Twin Turbo

Several manufacturers have this sequential, twin turbo set up eg. Supra, Liberty B4. They use a smaller turbo for bottm end response and when the revs reach a certain point, the bigger turbo takes over for better top end response. Worked well in the Supra but not so well in the Liberty.
