I read the reviews online. Weigh the specs to get the best compromise between grip and wear and keep to the better known brands as well. Since we don't get snow in this part of the world I can limit my choices between Max Performance summer tires and High Performance summer tires.

They say because of their clean air law which makes diesel fuel much more expensive than petrol. Here in the Philippines, Diesel is cheaper by 25% from premium petrol so most public vehicles use diesel. Taxis usually convert their petrol engines to run on LPG.

Yup, probably that too though weight can be reduced by using lighter materials for the engine. But compared to a petrol engine, yah, a diesel will probably always be heavier.

Found an Australian based company who set up a workshop here in the Philippines. They also use a box for diesel tuning called DPCHIP. http://www.diesel.asia/index.html They say they can actually customize the tune via a laptop. Is this considered remapping already? Have to do some more...

The Audi R10's running (winning) the Le Mans are diesel powered. I'm guessing the technology to make diesel engines perform is still new that's why it's not mainstream yet.

One more thing, my Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI is only Euro-2 compliant if that makes a difference. Cheers!
