- Once my new business takes off I want to build a Targa rally car for use here in Australia. We have a number of exciting Targas here such as Targa Tasmania, Targa West and Targa Adelaide to name just a few.
I intend to build the most improbable car for the classic category I know of hence my user name. I figure that since it would be the only one racing in the world, it will be a camera magnet and be a great platform for sponsorship. Imagine a Roller sliding around the corners and lighting up the bags!
No doubt aside from rebuilding the stock V8, I'll need to get it built to some sort of race specs. I have contact with the builder of the Sainty Engine, Stan Sainty who is one of the truly great engineers here in Oz.
Not sure yet what I'm allowed to do to the suspension, brakes etc within the rules but I'll find out soon. Once it is stripped of all the leather, sound proofing, timber and heavy paint it should come down quite a bit in weight. No doubt a 9" diff conversion will be the go so that we can alter ratios to suit the track conditions. Other than that I'll slip in a manual, not sure yet, either a Muncie or a Tremec maybe. That should be all that's non Roller. The whole point is to keep it as much RR as possible.
There was a Corniche that did a Paris-Dakar I think but it was a fibreglass body on a Hilux chassis with a Chevy drive-line. I want as much genuine RR as possible to make it completely unique.

- I've been in the auto industry for over 30 years, mostly parts and accessories and performance parts. I spent a number of years with a company here called Lynx Engineering which sold Holley carbs and parts, Dellorto carbs, Edelbrock manifolds, and a whole range of muscle car performance add ons.
I much prefer classic cars to the modern rice burners, although I know they are fantastic performers, and I am in the process of building a large garage to start my collection.
