Current Cars Mods.
I have spent many hours on the dyno trying to improve power and economy of the 5.3 V12. I have not made any engine mods yet just tuning and tricking the engine management. The ecu is still the old analog system. At one point I did have a piggy back computer fitted to the original to help improve power. I have made a new exhaust system from the manifold back increasing the length of the engine pipes to the rear of the transmission. The whole system is made up of mandrel bends and from the engine pipes back is 2 1/2". This improved the low to mid range torque considerably. At present I am rebuilding the front suspension all new bushes, ball joints, springs and shocks also heavy duty front and rear sway bars. While the front end is out of the car I am replacing the engine sump gaskets to cure a minor engine oil leak. I will be looking at setting up 1 coil per plug ignition. I have removed the engine fan and fitted spall thermo fans along with a much more efficient radiator and using higher pressure radiator caps. I am currently looking into replacing the 3 speed auto to a 5 speed transmission. With a bit of luck I will manage to get some reasonable fuel economy. At present on a highway cruise the Jag will return 26 - 27 miles per gallon. This drops back around town to around 19 miles per gallon.
About
I have been into cars as long as I can remember. I have 3 different trades that all involve cars or trucks. I am a qualified panel beater spray painter, qualified light vehicle mechanic and qualified heavy vehicle and plant mechanic. I have also been a vehicle inspector inspecting everything from mini bikes to Mack trucks and anything in between. I have also been a Driving examiner testing all classes for licencing including motor bikes. The best job was being head mechanic for a race team building circuit cars and rally cars.
