what your asking for is called a burble tune and there is a company that does custom burble tunes geptuned.com the sound comes from excess fuel being injected into the cylinder after the power stroke the rich mixture ignites in the exhaust stroke causing backfire

you have a bad ignition power output stage chip that is bad there should be 2 chips mounted to the air cleaner box one chip is for cyl 1,2,3 and the other chip is for cyl 4,5,6

also on that engine if the problem re occurs then you need to perform a throttle body reset and relearn this can only be done with ross tech or odis ross tech is easily obtained on e bay with the light version which lets you access only one model audi but it will do everything the fuill version...

I cannot find any information anywhere on tuning the n52 in the x3does anyone know 1st does this n52 have the 3 stage intake cuz the stock engine is rated at 268hp more than the 330i and 2nd can i use the supercharger or turbo mopds available for the n52 in other bmw cars any help much appreciated
