Very good comprehensive answer obi_waynne, but best using Forscan to scan the car as it will direct u in the area/s the problem is in..... although i just realized this thread was started 13mths ago so O.P has probably sorted this issue out but never replied to say what the fault was.

Any Fault codes?Service history? Fuel filter & air filter condition? Is the L.P fuel pump working?

Possibly a cracked head or cracked cylinder liner....

Sounds like a head gasket, but hopefully u are correct & it's an oil cooler, buy yourself a combustion gas check kit, they aren't that expensive, the kit is used to check combustion gasses in the coolant, this will bea good indicator for a blown head gasket.
